CPPE face to face ENT clinical assessment skills workshops for community pharmacists

CPPE in partnership with Community Pharmacy England will be arranging training for pharmacists to support some of the clinical assessment skills associated with the Pharmacy First service.

CPPE will be running two ear, nose and throat (ENT) medic led half-day workshops (morning and afternoon sessions) on Sunday 14th January 2024 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The session will provide an introduction and opportunity to practice ear, nose, and throat examination skills and will be facilitated by two CPPE tutors, a GP and a clinical demonstrator.

The sessions will be run collaboratively between Community Pharmacy England and CPPE and further details and promotional information will follow.

Event title: Pharmacy First – Ear, nose and throat clinical assessment skills workshop

Date: . Sunday 14 January 2024

https://www.cppe.ac.uk/programmes/l/ent-w-01

The workshop will provide an overview of ENT anatomy and the type of ENT presentations that might present in community pharmacy, as well as providing an opportunity to practice ear, nose, and throat examination skills with support from a medic and clinical demonstrator.  The workshop should enable people to:

·       apply a person-centred approach to ear, nose and throat history taking

·       describe ear, nose and throat examinations

·       describe the significance of ear, nose and throat red flags

·       identify when it is appropriate to refer patients on to an alternative healthcare provider, such as a GP.

NB – Pharmacists will be required to bring along their own otoscope to the workshop to encourage people to become familiar with their own equipment. The Pharmacy First service specification contains information about the required features for purchasing equipment.
